                                                       PASTOR’S MESSAGE

For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel will save it.

Mark 8:35 (NRSV)

SAVE THE DATE!!!!    September 17th    Congregational Meeting after Church!  This is the 1of 3 Congregational Meetings. This meeting will focus on “Who We Are Now”.

Many of you have been wondering about the future of our church, when the search committee will be formed, and what in the world is happening with the Churches Alive process, and WHY is it taking so long!  We will begin to answer these questions and share what has been learned at this important meeting. A LOT of information is gathered through the Churches Alive assessments. However, this is NOT an analytical problem solving, brainstorming approach or a fix-it process. It is a means to determine God’s longing for our church.

Many of you have been praying both in church and at home toward the goal of letting go of our needs and yearnings for our church and to humbly, honestly open ourselves to God’s possibilities. It is from this desire that we invite EVERY member of the church to this meeting.  If you are concerned about any of the following then you need to make every effort to attend this meeting.

  • Our church’s future,
  • Why people aren’t flocking through our doors anxious to become members, and
  • Who will we call as our Settled Pastor and why.

Sometimes we stay focused on what we offer, what we need, and the ways we’ve always done things. We lose sight of WHY we exist; what unique potential we have to change people’s lives, help them to find wholeness and love through relationship to Jesus; how lives can be transformed by faith. Practicalities are easier. We need everyone to help us find our WHY.

WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN AT THIS MEETING?  (about 1½ hours)

  • WE will open ourselves to the Holy Spirit’s leading and discernment.
  • The CA Leadership Team will present the themes that have been discerned through our:
  1. oAppreciative Inquiry,
  2. oCongregational Life Survey, and
  3. oHistory
  4. oAs a team, we’ve also imagined from this information “What God Might Think are the Most Life Giving Essential Characteristics” that are part of our church’s DNA, ministry, identity, and purpose.

But we need your feedback and input. Our leadership team has distilled the data and stories to, what we think, are their most essential insights. But we are too few.  This is VITAL to the life and future of our church.  YOUR input is needed. Please make every effort to attend.  Babysitting will be available to maximize attendance by all members of our church.

It will be great to see you all as we gather again for Homecoming on September 10th!

Pastor Dianne
